HCMC Youngth Creation Exhibition 2022

The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), or drone, developed by students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education has attracted the attention of many young people. The drone can fly at heights of 2 to 4 meters, weighs 1 kg, and can carry a payload of 0.5 kg. It has a flight time of 15 to 20 minutes.

Phan Van Quan, an automation engineering student and the creator of the drone, mentioned that the distinctive feature of this model is its ability to autonomously operate based on pre-programmed coordinates with no manual control. “This enhances the level of automation for the drone and reduces labor costs,” Quan said.

During laboratory testing, computer vision technology was used to enable the drone to autonomously navigate based on pre-programmed coordinates, schedule its operations, and control its flight time. In real-world applications, Quan stated that GPS positioning technology would extend the operational range of the drone. “The product is currently in the research stage in the laboratory and requires further improvements to achieve more efficient performance in practical applications,” Quan added.
